Dental crowns in Sterling, CO, are sometimes necessary for tooth repair and stability. They are also part of tooth replacement; patients can choose them for cosmetic purposes.

Because dental crowns are so versatile and crucial in modern dentistry, it only makes sense that I use quality materials to fabricate these vital restorations.

In most cases, my patients don’t wait weeks for crown fabrication by an outside lab and don’t have to settle for a temporary restoration while they wait. I’m pleased to offer same-day dental crowns in Sterling. Additionally, I use digital technology to create the model for your crown. For you, this means no more gooey impression pastes in the mouth.

Let’s explore dental crowns, including what they are, how I use them, and how to best see to their upkeep and longevity.

What Are Dental Crowns?

In its most common role, a dental crown is a customizable tooth cover that fits over a treated tooth to the gumline. Crowns can be fabricated from various materials, but most patients prefer the natural look and finish of porcelain.

I use CEREC technology in my dental office to fabricate a tooth crown from a single piece of quality porcelain. For CEREC crowns, I take a digital impression of the treated tooth, send the results to my in-office computer for specification building, and then forward these results to an on-site printer.

I make all final adjustments before cementing the crown over your treated tooth. I think you’ll find that the crowned tooth is indistinguishable from your untreated teeth.

The best part of CEREC technology is that all this takes place while you wait!

How I Use Dental Crowns for Oral Health and Smile Aesthetics

Dental crowns are vital and offer a variety of essential uses across dentistry.

Weak, Damaged, or Deeply Decayed Tooth

You can damage a tooth in various ways. One of the most common ways is root canal infections, which usually destabilize the structure. You can also have a deeply decayed and crumbling tooth or even an oral injury.

A dental crown can save the tooth from loss by creating a safe space between your chewing force and the tooth underneath the dental cap.

A Vital Part of Tooth Replacement

I’m pleased to offer the same-day dental bridge in my dental office using CEREC technology. A dental bridge is a custom replacement tooth or teeth situated between dental crowns. I use the crowns to cap healthy teeth, allowing the replacement teeth to close your smile gap. As with dental crowns, I can adjust your dental bridge before cementing the crowns to the anchor teeth.

Dental crowns also act as your replacement tooth in dental implant technology.

Quality Dental Crowns for Smile Aesthetics

I’m pleased to offer cosmetic dentistry in Sterling, including options like teeth whitening and clear aligners. However, dental crowns can also play a vital role in smile aesthetics.

In many cases, dental crowns can hide the following tooth flaws.

  • Short and worn-down teeth
  • Unusually shaped teeth
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Cracked or chipped teeth
  • Stubborn tooth discoloration
  • General aesthetic flaws

I must first treat the tooth to place a dental crown, whether CEREC or from an outside lab. This requires shaping it and removing old filling material or jagged edges. Once the tooth is treated for capping, I adjust the crown’s shading and fit before cementing it over your tooth.

Dental Crown Care and Upkeep

Fortunately, these vital restorations don’t require added steps to your daily oral hygiene routines. You brush and floss as usual—at least twice daily brushing and once daily flossing. It’s also crucial to continue visiting my dental office every six months for dental checkups and teeth cleanings. You should also avoid biting into sticky foods directly with your capped tooth.

Practicing excellent oral hygiene and visiting my office regularly protects your gum health and promotes restoration longevity.

If ever your crown breaks or feels loose, it’s vital to contact my dental office to schedule a repair or replacement.
